UPI QR on restaurant bills: faster payments without typing the amount
Payments · 4 min read · 2 November 2026
Most customers now pay by UPI. The usual way is a printed QR sticker on the counter: the customer scans it, types the amount, and shows you the screen. It works, but it is slow, and typing mistakes happen. A UPI QR on the bill with the amount already in it is faster and more accurate.
Static QR vs bill QR
- A static QR (the sticker) only has your UPI ID. The customer types the amount.
- A bill QR is made for each bill. It has your UPI ID and the exact amount, so the customer's app opens with the total filled in. They only enter their UPI PIN.
Why it helps at a busy counter
- No typing: the customer does not type ₹588 as ₹58.
- Faster queues: scan, PIN, done.
- Fewer arguments: the amount on the bill and in the app is the same.
- Works at the table too: the QR is printed on the bill the waiter brings.
Always check the money arrived
A QR code on a bill makes paying easy, but billing software usually does not see your bank account. Before you mark the bill as paid by UPI, check that the payment arrived: a sound box, your UPI business app or your bank SMS. Some customers show a "payment pending" screen. Wait for the success message on your side.
What you need
- A UPI ID for your business (from your bank or a UPI business app)
- Billing software that prints the QR with the bill amount
- A thermal printer that prints a clear QR: 80 mm paper gives a bigger, easier QR, but 58 mm works too
How DeviPOS does it
- Enter your UPI ID once in the restaurant settings
- Every bill prints a UPI QR for the exact total
- When settling, choose UPI and the same QR shows on the screen for the customer to scan
- Cash, UPI, card and split payments are all recorded, and reports show totals by payment mode
